Bill “Bullfrog” Dietrich
Chicago White Sox pitcher Bill “Bullfrog” Dietrich, the pride of Villanova University, tosses a no-hitter for the Chicago White Sox 89 years ago today, beating the St. Louis Browns 8-0 at Comiskey Park.
Dietrich’s no-hitter comes six years after his pro debut in the minors on City Island, where he wins 18 games for the Harrisburg Senators in 1931 before starting a 16-year career in the majors with the Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators and, of course, the White Sox.
