The Harrisburg Alumni Association

Dave Trembley is named the first manager in the Harrisburg Senators’ modern era 39 years ago today.

Trembley leads Harrisburg to the 1987 Class AA Eastern League championship in the Senators’ first appearance on City Island since the previous incarnation of the franchise folds after the 1952 season.

The fundamentals-first Trembley stays with the Senators for two more seasons, taking them again to the EL finals in 1989 before moving on.

After more than 20 years in the minors, Trembley eventually reaches the major leagues in 2007, first as a bullpen coach with the Baltimore Orioles before working his way up to bench coach and, finally, by midseason their manager.

He manages the Orioles into the 2010 season before Juan Samuel replaces him.

Trembley is last seen in 2023 managing the State College Spikes of Major League Baseball’s Draft League, the entry level tier of the pro game where Trembley gets to do what he does best – teaching fundamentals.
