A Babe and a Bush
Just 10 weeks before he passes away in 1948, Hall of Famer Babe Ruth attends a game 77 years ago today at Yale University.
There, Ruth meets before the game with the Bulldogs’ captain, a first baseman from Milton, Mass.
Ruth gives Yale’s 23-year-old first baseman a copy of the manuscript for the motion picture, The Babe Ruth Story, which the longtime New York Yankees outfielder donates to the university’s library.
The first baseman who receives the gift eventually moves to Texas, gets involved first in the oil business and then in politics.
His name?
That would be George H.W. Bush, who eventually becomes the 41st president of the United States.
