Of all the records the magnificent Brooks Robinson holds, this is one you rarely hear about.

Four times in his Hall of Fame career Robinson does what players rarely do even once: he hits into a triple play.

The first of Robinson’s record four times hitting into a triple play comes 67 years ago today during the sixth inning of the Orioles’ 2-1 loss to Washington before a Monday night crowd of 5,432 in Baltimore.

This triple play starts when Robinson lines out to Washington shortstop Rocky Bridges, who quickly turns Robinson’s line drive into two more outs as he catches Lenny Green off second base and Jim Marshall too far from first.

Robinson’s three other swings into infamy come in 1964, 1965 and ’67.

Of course, Robinson does just fine turning triple plays, as well, starting three of them during his 23 seasons with the Orioles.
