A little home cooking in Philly

Roy Campanella in 1952

Roy Campanella hits the 100th and 101st home runs of his Hall of Fame career 74 years ago today, starting in the second inning with a shot off the Phillies right-hander Karl Drews at Philadelphia’s Shibe Park.‍

For good measure, Brooklyn’s catcher follows in the third inning with a grand slam off Drews to account for all of the runs in the Dodgers’ 5-1 victory before a Friday night crowd of 30,323 in North Philly.

Campanella hits 19 of his 242 career homers – five coming off Drews – for the Dodgers in their games in Philadelphia, Campanella’s hometown.

Overall, Campanella puts together a .538 slugging percentage at Shibe Park, easily his best total in any road ballpark during his 10 seasons with the Dodgers from 1948-57.
