An electric moment in North Philly

Lightning strikes near Philadelphia’s Connie Mack Stadium 67 years ago today during the third inning of the Phillies’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The skies in North Philly light up just before Pittsburgh’s Smoky Burgess begins the top of the third inning with a double to right field off Phillies starter and future Hall of Famer Robin Roberts.

The Pirates eventually win the game 4-3 before a Tuesday night crowd of 11,149 as they score the game’s final run on Dick Groat’s solo homer to left off Roberts with one out in the top of the ninth.
