Pro baseball returns to Harrisburg, Pa., 39 years ago today as the Class AA Eastern League approves the relocation of the Nashua franchise owned by Jerry Mileur from New Hampshire to City Island in time for the 1987 season.

The move ends a 35-year absence of pro ball on City Island, an absence that starts when the original, cash-poor Senators fold after the 1952 season.

Harrisburg’s first season back in the game is a good one, too, with the Senators winning the Eastern League title – their first of six league championships from 1987-99.

Alas for the Senators, they do not win another EL title since then.
