Beating them here, there, everywhere

Robin Roberts

Longtime Philadelphia Phillies ace Robin Roberts, pitching then for the Chicago Cubs, is the winner in relief 59 years ago today to become the first and only pitcher in history to beat the Braves during their stays in Boston, Milwaukee and, by then, Atlanta.

Roberts works the final two innings of the Cubs’ 14-inning, 4-2 victory at Atlanta’s then-new, now-demolished Fulton County Stadium.

The victory – his 34th lifetime against the Braves – turns out to be the 286th and final victory in Roberts’ 19-year Hall of Fame career.
