Bill Stoneman at 82

Happy 82nd birthday today to Bill Stoneman, who in 1969 pitches the last no-hitter at Philadelphia’s Connie Mack Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat the Phillies 7-0 on April 17.

Stoneman – seen here throwing his final pitch of that game to Deron Johnson, who bounces out to shortstop Maury Wills – tosses his no-hitter in only the ninth game of the Expos’ existence.

He also throws the franchise’s second no-hitter three years later, beating the New York Mets 2-0 at Montreal’s Parc Jarry in his final start of the 1972 season.
