Infielder Jamey Carroll, one of the most popular players to ever summer in the minors with Harrisburg, 13 years ago today picks up the 1,000th and final hit in a major-league career many in the game once thought would never happen.

Carroll's milestone hit – a double off the White Sox’s Chris Sale in the fourth inning of Kansas City’s 6-1 road victory – comes 11 years and 16 days after his first hit in the majors, also in Chicago late in the 2002 season, against the Cubs’ Alan Benes in the Expos’ 6-3 loss at Wrigley Field.

Carroll does not reach the majors until he is 28, becoming the oldest position player to make his major league debut with Montreal since the slightly older 28-year-old third baseman Coco Laboy starts the Expos' inaugural game in 1969 against the Mets at Shea Stadium.
