Dave Concepcion at 77

Today’s moment of pause for Baby Boomers finds longtime Cincinnati Reds shortstop Dave Concepcion celebrating his 76th birthday.

Concepcion is perhaps the least publicized, star on those 1970s Big Red Machine teams already featuring future Hall of Famers in Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tony Perez, as well as the later banished Pete Rose.

Concepcion helps the Reds win four National League pennants and two World Series titles during a seven-year span from 1970-76.

He also becomes a nine-time National League All-Star in a 10-year span from 1973-82, as well as a Gold Glove winner five times in six seasons from 1974-79.

In all, Concepcion spends 19 seasons in the majors – all with Cincinnati – from 1970-88, batting .267 with 2,326 hits in 2,488 games.
