D’oh!
The Class AA Harrisburg Senators scrub a “Vladimir Gorilla” bobblehead promotion 22 years ago today after the real Vladimir Guerrero, arguably the best all-around prospect to ever play on City Island, objects to, well, being depicted as a primate.
Thirteen years later, complete with a new front office staff making the promotional decisions, the Senators in 2016 honor Guerrero with their first life-sized bobblehead.
Also on the same day in 2016, the Senators retire the No. 27 Guerrero wears during the 1996 season, when the future Hall of Famer dominates the Eastern League and is named the league’s MVP after hitting .360 in 118 games for Harrisburg.
