Fathers and sons
Tim Raines Jr., left, with his father in 2001 at Baltimore
Tim Raines joins his son, Tim Raines Jr., in the outfield 24 years ago today during the Baltimore Orioles’ 5-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox before a Thursday night crowd of 43,302 at Camden Yards.
The Raines duo becomes only the majors’ second father-son combo to play in the field during the same game, following the Griffeys – the Kens, Senior and Junior – with Seattle in 1990-91.
At the time of their game in 2001, Tim Raines is 42; his son 22.
The Raines family later comes within a year of reuniting in the minors with the Class AA Harrisburg Senators as Tim Jr. plays for them in 2006 while Tim Sr. becomes their hitting coach in 2007.
