The Harrisburg Alumni Association
Ray Mueller
Boston’s Ray Mueller, the longtime Steelton resident and even longer-ago Harrisburg Senator, hits his first home run in the major leagues off future Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell 91 years ago today at old Braves Field in Boston.
Mueller’s homer leads off the bottom of the ninth inning and breaks up Hubbell’s shutout in a game the New York Giants eventually win 4-2.
Mueller is a rookie catcher at the time for Boston, where he plays the first four seasons of a 14-year career in which he is one of the premier defensive catchers in the majors.
