Needing nine strikeouts to match the Harrisburg Senators’ modern franchise record of 160 set by Rich Sauveur in 1987, Ron Chiavacci strikes out 10 in seven innings of a 5-4, 10-inning victory over the Erie SeaWolves 25 years ago today on City Island.‍

The Montreal Expos were planning to shut down Chiavacci to rest his arm, but the right-hander from Scranton, Pa., pleads with Expos minor league pitching coordinator Wayne Rosenthal to let him make his final start of the 2001 season for their Class AA affiliate.
