Here’s a switch
President Harry Truman throws out the first of two ceremonial first pitches before the Washington Senators’ 1950 season opener against the Philadelphia Athletics 75 years ago Friday at Griffith Stadium in D.C.
Truman, a natural left-hander, tosses out the first pitch left-handed and follows that with a second pitch using his right hand.
The Senators then use the right arm of starter Ray Scarborough and left-handed reliever Mickey Harris to beat the A’s 8-7 before a rainy Tuesday afternoon crowd of 29,320.
The Opening Day is the 50th and last in the Hall of Fame career of A’s manager Connie Mack, who retires after the 1950 season.
