Vladimir Guerrero arrives in Harrisburg 30 years ago today to revive a moribund Senators team that promptly wins 19 of its first 25 games with Guerrero in the starting lineup.
The right fielder finishes the 1996 season as the Class AA Eastern League’s Most Valuable Player with a league-leading .360 batting average to go along with 19 homers and 78 RBI.
Oh, yeah, along the way, Guerrero leads Harrisburg to the first of its league-record four straight championships.
Guerrero then spends 16 seasons in the majors, where he puts together a Hall of Fame career with a .318 lifetime batting average, 449 home runs, 1,496 runs batted in, nine All-Star Game appearances and an American League MVP award in 2004.
