Home away from home

Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium (Jerry Reuss photo)

The Class AA Harrisburg Senators travel 38 years ago today to Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium for a home-away-from-home game against the Albany-Colonie Yankees.

The teams play to a 3-3 tie before play is suspended in the eighth inning.

The game resumes the next day on City Island, where the Yankees beat the Pirates’ Class AA affiliate 7-3 in 12 innings.

By the way, this photo comes from the collection of Jerry Reuss, who not only is an All-Star pitcher during his 22-year career in the major leagues but also a terrific photographer.

Reuss’ post-playing career includes spending the summer of 2002 in Harrisburg as the Senators’ pitching coach before moving on to the Binghamton Mets in the same role.
