The Harrisburg Alumni Association
The Montreal Expos 31 years ago today name onetime Toronto Blue Jays catcher Pat Kelly as the Harrisburg Senators’ new manager.
Kelly tops a list of candidates that includes former National League All-Star second baseman Tom Herr, as well as former major league catchers Tim Blackwell and Bill Plummer.
Kelly’s team in 1995 – a Harrisburg team loaded with would-be replacement players left over from the lingering major league strike during spring training – finishes last in the Class AA Eastern League.
Kelly’s second season on City Island fares much better as the 1996 Senators go from worst-to-first and win the EL title, the first of a league-record, four straight championships by the Senators.
