Baseball’s 1975 amateur draft includes a couple of future Harrisburg Senators – Rick Sofield and Bo McLaughlin – being selected in the first round 51 years ago today.

Sofield, a high school outfielder from Morristown, N.J., who eventually manages the Senators in 1997, is selected with the 13th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins.

McLaughlin, Harrisburg’s pitching coach from 1995-96, goes next at No. 14 to the Houston Astros, who pluck the right-hander from David Lipscomb College in Tennessee.

Nine years to the day later, the New York Mets use the No. 1 overall pick of the 1984 draft to pick Mechanicsburg High outfielder Shawn Abner.
