Last call in Harrisburg

The remarkable career of Terry Byrom comes to an end a year ago yesterday in Harrisburg as the longtime radio broadcaster calls his final game for the Class AA Senators.

Byrom’s career, which starts in 2002 with the Class A Ogden Raptors, includes more than 3,000 games behind the microphone.

Byrom, then 62, serves in combat areas with the military well before getting a late career start in broadcasting in 2002.

He ends up spending one season in Ogden and two at Class A Fort Wayne before beginning his 20-year run in Harrisburg, where he calls 2,781 games from 2005 through 2026.

Along the way, Byrom calls games for more than 180 homegrown players on their way to the major leagues – a list that includes future major league All-Stars Prince Fielder, Ryan Zimmerman, Ian Desmond, Jordan Zimmermann, Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Juan Soto.

More important for Byrom are the countless friendships he makes within the game over 23 seasons and the memories he creates for an even greater number of fans listening to him on the radio and watching his calls for games televised by MiLB.

While the Senators struggle on the field for most of Byrom’s tenure in Harrisburg, they leave him with a victory a year ago day after rallying for four runs to beat Akron 5-4.
