After going 0-for-5 in his debut for the Montreal Expos two days earlier in Colorado, onetime Harrisburg Senators center fielder Rondell White picks up his first hit in the majors 33 years ago today with a line-drive single to center field in his first at-bat off Houston's Darryl Kile in the Astrodome. ‍

White’s arrival with the Expos comes after a summer in which the center fielder hits .328 in only 90 games for Harrisburg with 16 doubles, 10 triples, 12 homers and 21 stolen basses.

White ends up playing 15 seasons in the majors, finishing in 2007 with a .284 career batting average, an All-Star appearance in 2003 and a .400 batting average in two playoff series for the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins.
