In a move that crushes the heart of the borough of Brooklyn, Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley announces 69 years ago today that his team will abandon Ebbets Field following the 1957 season and move to the untapped riches of Los Angeles.

Somewhere today in Brooklyn there is a light burning, awaiting the Dodgers’ return.
