Motivation in Memphis

Rondell White

Harrisburg Senators center fielder Rondell White – irked after being inadvertently listed in the program at a pregame luncheon as an injury replacement instead of a starter – drives in three runs with a single and double to ignite the National League's 12-7 victory in the Class AA All-Star Game 33 years ago tonight in Memphis.

White represents Harrisburg, along with Senators manager Jim Tracy, first baseman-outfielder Cliff Floyd and pitcher Joey Eischen.

The pregame snafu leaves White grumbling.

“He saw an asterisk by his name that said he was added as a reserve,” Tracy says. “When things like that happen to Rondell, that's not good for the opposition.”

White, Floyd and Eischen each go on to play 10-plus seasons in the majors, while Tracy manages there for 11 seasons with three teams.
