Onetime St. Louis Cardinals catcher Joe Garagiola on playing against Boston’s Ted Williams in the 1946 World Series:

“I guess the biggest thrill I had was crouching behind the plate, giving signals when Ted Williams was the hitter. I didn’t know whether to call the pitch or get his autograph.”
