New name, familiar colors

One month and 19 days after playing their last game, the relocated Montreal Expos rebrand themselves 21 years ago today as the Washington Nationals with red, white and blue with a dash of gold in their color scheme.

The colors – without the gold and with a darker shade of blue – essentially are the same the Expos use for 35 seasons during their time in Montreal.

Of course, the dash of gold could represent the greed Major League Baseball shows in moving the franchise, which it runs as a parentless ward of the state, for what it perceives will be wealthier climes in Washington, D.C.
