After batting only .255 in 1959 – hey, give him a break; he is 38 years old at the time – future Hall of Famer Stan Musial tells the St. Louis Cardinals 66 years ago today that his salary should be cut from $100,000 to $80,000.

Now, how many players today would voluntarily take a 20-percent pay cut after a less-than-stellar season?

Um, that would be, well, no one.

Exactly nine years to the day later, Musial is elected, along with longtime Brooklyn Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella, to the Hall of Fame.
