Fashion connoisseurs note that 115 years ago today the Philadelphia Phillies announce they will add thin, vertical stripes to their white flannel uniforms for the upcoming season.

The Phillies’ pinstripes – modeled here in 1911 by Phillies Hall of Fame pitcher Pete Alexander – are first used by the Phillies four years before the New York Yankees introduce the same look to their now-iconic uniforms.
