Remembering Del Ennis
Del Ennis as a rookie with the Phillies in 1946
Born-and-bred Philadelphia Phillies star outfielder Del Ennis would turn 101 today if he were still with us.
Ennis, the pride of Philadelphia’s Olney High School who passes away in 1996, spends the first 11 of his 14 seasons in the majors with the Phillies, batting .286 in 1,630 games with 259 homers and 1,124 runs batted in.
Ennis finishes his major league career in 1959, splitting his final three seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox.
He then spends retirement operating his popular bowling alley in the Philly suburb of Huntingdon Valley, as well as coaching a few seasons with Penn State’s Ogontz branch campus team in Abington.
