Remembering Larry Doyle

Today marks what would have been the 140th birthday for Larry Doyle, one of the best ballplayers so few today remember.‍

Doyle is a star second baseman from 1907-20 for the New York Giants and Chicago Cubs.

Thirteen of those seasons are with the Giants, for whom Doyle is a .292 hitter over 1,622 games.

Among his seasons with the Giants, he wins a batting title, twice leads the National League in hits and once each in doubles and triples.

Doyle also is the National League’s MVP in 1912, topping a ballot that includes seven future Hall of Famers in Honus Wagner, Joe Tinker, Rube Marquard, Christy Mathewson, Miller Huggins, Johnny Evers and Grover Cleveland Alexander,
