Remembering Tom Buskey

One of the Harrisburg area's finest athletes – Tom Buskey – passes away 27 years ago today at the much too young age of 51.

Buskey, a right-handed pitcher, signs with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1969 and makes his major league debut four years later.

Buskey records his first save in only his second appearance in the majors when he replaces Sparky Lyle with two on and two outs in the ninth inning and promptly strikes out Oakland’s Gene Tenace to end the game and preserves a 10-9 victory on Aug. 10, 1973 at old Yankee Stadium.

Buskey saves 33 more games in his eight-year career with the Yankees, Cleveland and Toronto.
