Remembering Tony Blanco

Tony Blanco

Former Harrisburg Senators and Washington Nationals outfielder Tony Blanco was among the more than 60 people killed a year ago today after the roof of a Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed.

Also losing his life was longtime major league pitcher Octavio Dotel.

Dotel was 51, Blanco 43.

After making his major league debut in 2005 with the Nationals, Blanco played for their Class AA affiliate in Harrisburg during the 2006 and ’07 seasons.

Over those two seasons with the Senators, Blanco batted .243 in 80 games with 12 home runs and 51 runs batted in.

During his time in Washington in 2005, Blanco batted .177 in 56 games with one homer and seven RBIs.

His pro career lasted 17 seasons, from 2000 through the summer of 2016.

His son, Tony Blanco Jr., now plays in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization.
