Repeating a three-peat

Fourteen years ago today, the trio of Brian Goodwin, Sean Nicol and Anthony Rendon homers in a span of eight pitches during the Harrisburg Senators’ 5-2 victory over Reading in a Class AA game on Harrisburg’s City Island.‍

Delivering the pitches – and, obviously, regretting his selections – is Reading starter Austin Hyatt, who is in the midst of his fourth and final season of pro baseball.

The three straight homers from 2012 tie a modern-era Senators franchise record first set in 2001, when Valentino Pascucci, Matt Cepicky and Scott Hodges go back-to-back-to-back in the eighth inning of a 4-2 victory against Altoona’s Gerardo Padua on April 23, 2001 on City Island.‍

Another Harrisburg trio matches the record on Aug. 15, 2021, when Jake Alu, K.J. Harrison and Jakson Reetz launch consecutive homers in the first inning of the Senators’ 11-5 victory over New Hampshire.‍

City Island also is the backdrop for that record-tying performance.

Alu, Harrison and Reetz hit their homers in a span of seven pitches off New Hampshire starter Reilly Hovis.

Back in 2001, Pascucci, Cepicky and Hodges accomplish their feat in only three pitches – an achievement that others may match but never break.
