Return of the Giants
Playing for different teams in 1933, the Harrisburg Giants’ once-vaunted outfield trio of future Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston, Rap Dixon and Fats Jenkins is reunited on the East team in the Negro Leagues’ first East-West Game 92 years ago today at Chicago’s Comiskey Park.
Charleston, then with the famed Pittsburgh Crawfords, is the 1933 game’s leading vote getter with 43,793 in fan balloting conducted by the country’s major Black newspapers.
Charleston starts at first base as the East falls to the West 11-7.
