Second and third efforts
Brandon Phillips
Cincinnati’s Brandon Phillips steals second and third on the same play 19 years ago today as he takes advantage of the Washington Nationals’ overly zealous shift against the Reds’ pull-happy Adam Dunn.
With Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman playing on the right-field side of second base and John Lannan pitching, Phillips steals second and keeps on going to third with no one covering the base in the top of the fourth inning.
No worries for the Nationals, who eventually win the game 7-2 in front of a Wednesday night crowd of 28,944 in D.C.
