Ted Williams addresses the Fenway faithful 74 years ago today

With his teammates looking on and the Marines waiting for him, Red Sox All-Star left fielder Ted Williams says goodbye to the Boston fans 74 years ago today at Fenway Park.

Williams addresses the Wednesday afternoon crowd of 24,764 before the Red Sox proceed to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5.

Williams then goes overseas to fly 39 combat missions against North Korea before returning to the Red Sox in August 1953.
