Ted Williams offers no leeway

In near-perfect symmetry to his near-perfect career, Boston's Ted Williams hits a homer – the 517th of his Hall of Fame career – off Washington Senators right-hander Don Lee 65 years ago today.

Twenty-one years earlier, on Sept. 17, 1939, Williams homers off Lee’s father – Chicago White Sox left-hander Thornton Lee – for the 28th homer of his rookie season in 1939.

Both homers come at Fenway Park and both represent the Red Sox’s lone run of the game as Thornton Lee beats Boston 6-1 on a complete game, three-hitter on Sept. 17, 1939 while Don Lee wins his game 5-1 on a complete game, nine-hitter on this day in 1960.
