The cost of a reigning MVP

Coming off an MVP season in which he leads the National League in batting, stolen bases and spunk, future Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson signs the highest contract in Brooklyn Dodgers history 76 years ago today as he agrees to a $35,000 deal.

In today’s dollars that would be only $467,552 – some $312,448 less than what major league rookies will earn in 2026.
