After four straight winning seasons and leading the 2004 Los Angeles Dodgers to their first National League West title since 1995, onetime Harrisburg Senators manager Jim Tracy receives a two-year contract extension 21 years ago today.

The Dodgers, though, fall to 71-91 in 2005, leaving Tracy to resign.

Tracy soon becomes manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for two seasons before moving on to Colorado, where he wins the National League’s manager of the year award in 2009 before the Rockies’ dysfunctional front office forces him again to resign after the 2012 season.

He has not managed since in the majors, opting instead for a better team to look after – namely, his handful of grandchildren.
