The price of penmanship
A signature of Shoeless Joe Jackson sells for $23,100 at auction 35 years today in New York City.
The price reportedly is the most ever paid up to that point for a signature from the 19th or 20th century.
Driving up the price is Jackson’s well-known inability to read or write during his life.
The signature is one that Jackson copies from one written by his wife, Katie.
