Toby Harrah with the Texas Rangers
Baby Boomer Alert: Shortstop Toby Harrah, one of the last Washington Senators before their 1972 move to Texas, celebrates his 78th birthday today.
Harrah becomes a three-time American League All-Star after the Senators relocate to Texas and morph into the Rangers.
He eventually moves on to Cleveland and the New York Yankees before returning to the Rangers for the final two seasons of a 17-year career that ends in 1986.
His career totals include a .264 batting average with 195 homers among his 1,954 hits.
Harrah also is one of only 13 players in Major League Baseball history with a palindromic name – a list that starts in 1918 with Truck Hannah and later adds the father-son duo of Dick Nen and Rob Nen.
Of the 13, five belong to Salas – Mark, Juan, Marino, Fernando and Ethan.
In case you are wondering, Mark and Ethan are catchers; Juan, Marino and Fernando pitchers.
