When Giants fall

The Harrisburg Giants, a talent-loaded team led by Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston and Hall of Fame-worthy Rap Dixon, become the first team in the Eastern Colored League – an offshoot of the Negro National League – to be no-hit 101 years ago today as they fall to left-hander Nip Winters and Hilldale 2-0 on Harrisburg’s City Island.

The victory is one of Winters’ league-high 20 during the 1924 season.

The 1924 season is the second of four straight summers in which Winters leads the ECL in victories, a four-year span over which his record is 64-20 with 63 complete games.
