Work before play

Construction continues during the 1970 season on Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium, which eventually opens in April 1971.

The Phillies stay at the Vet for 33 seasons before moving into a new ballpark that eventually will be built next door in time for the 2004 season.

The Vet’s neighbors here in 1970 – the Spectrum, middle, and JFK Stadium – are, like the Vet, now long gone.
