Jim Neidlinger, the Opening Day starter in 1987, returns four years ago today for another pitch

A reunion originally suggested in a text message becomes a reality four years ago today as members of the 1987 Class AA Eastern League champion Harrisburg Senators return to City Island.

The reunion starts earlier in the day with a little bit of golf and a lot of adult beverages at one of their old haunts before continuing during the current Senators’ night game against Richmond.

A who’s who in Senators’ history attend, including manager Dave Trembley; pitchers Jim Neidlinger, Larry Melton, Dave Rooker and Rob Russell; catchers Tom Prince and Kerry Baker; first baseman Lance Belen; and trainer Dave Douglas, as well as original general manager Rick Redd, assistant GM Todd Vander Woude, broadcasters Dan Kamal and Mark Mattern; and sales director Cindy Walrath Colley.

Just as he did for the Senators’ first game in 1987, Neidlinger throws out the ceremonial first pitch before their game four years ago tonight.
