Today marks the 42nd anniversary of Pete Rose’s 4,000th hit in the major leagues.
Today also marks the 63rd anniversary of Rose's first hit in the majors.
Now what are the chances of that happening?
Pete might know those odds when he is alive, but let’s not go there.
By the way, Rose’s milestone come against a pair of All-Star pitchers as hit No. 1 is an eighth-inning triple off Pittsburgh’s Bob Friend in 1963 during the Reds’ 12-4 loss to the Pirates at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, while No. 4,000 is a fourth-inning double off Philadelphia’s Jerry Koosman in 1984 during the Expos’ 5-1 victory over the Phillies at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
