Wild night in Harrisburg
The Harrisburg Senators squander a 7-0 lead before rallying 26 years ago tonight to beat the Norwich Navigators 10-9 on City Island, tying the 1999 Class AA Eastern League finals 2-2 and forcing a fifth and deciding game.
In addition to those 19 runs, the teams combine for 36 baserunners on 19 hits, 14 walks, two errors and a hit batsman in what is the wildest game in Harrisburg’s storied playoff history.
That distinction of craziness, though, lasts only 24 hours before Milton Bradley ends the series the next night with a two-out, two-strike, bottom-of-the-ninth, straight-out-of-Hollywood grand slam.
The title is Harrisburg’s fourth straight, an unprecedented run of success in the Eastern League’s century-plus history.
