Doubling your investment

Twelve years after helping the city of Harrisburg purchase the Senators in 1995 to keep them from moving out of state, Mayor Stephen R. Reed announces 19 years ago today the Class AA Eastern League franchise is being sold to Michael Reinsdorf, whose father, Jerry, owns the Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls.

The price tag is $13.25 million – the most ever paid for an Eastern League team and nearly twice as much as the $6.7 million the city spends in 1995 to purchase the team.
