One last pitch

Orlando Hernandez (Will Bentzel photo)

Onetime New York Yankee pitcher Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez, out of the major leagues since 2007, joins the Class AA Harrisburg Senators 15 years ago today in an attempt to keep alive his career.

At 44, Hernandez becomes the oldest player in Harrisburg baseball history – a history that dates to 1890.

As for his 2010 comeback, Hernandez pitches well out of Harrisburg’s bullpen with a 1.86 earned-run average in six appearances before abruptly leaving the playoff-bound Senators on the eve of their season-ending road trip.

He never again pitches in organized baseball.
